Abstract

The object of this study is to provide the potential readers of the recent translation of Iris Murdoch’s novel Nuns and Soldiers with a brief guide to enrich their experience. The complexity of the context framing this simple love story may explain why it has taken more than thirty years for Nuns and Soldiers, one of the great novels by Iris Murdoch, to be translated into Spanish. The keys expounded here, which are the product of the translator’s work, will help readers decipher the historical, conceptual, theological, politico-moral and symbolic dimensions of Nuns and Soldiers, so that this fairy tale for adults can be easily read and greatly enjoyed.
