The Spanish Blue Division was the representation of Spain on the Eastern Front during World War II. The theme was used in several novels and autobiographies dur¬ing the Franco dictatorship. In this corpus, not very extensive and of which writers such as Tomás Salvador, Luis Romero or Dionisio Ridruejo are part, the volunteers wrote about their experiences in the Soviet Union. Nowadays, some well-known novelists like Almudena Grandes, Lorenzo Silva, Juan Manuel de Prada or Carla Montero, have renewed interest in this historial period for the composition of their own works. The aim of this essay is to introduce the five characteristics —memory in the black novel, historical novel, affiliative act, hypertextuality and appearance of hidden themes— that we identify in this kind of texts.
