Abstract

This work analyzes the well-known Asimov’s Foundation trilogy from an architextual perspective. Traditionally, this work has been considered part of what is called space opera, a popular subgenre of science fiction, as it undoubtedly shares many of its characteristics. However, a detailed analysis of the trilogy shows us that the work also participates of two additional subgenres, the historical novel and the detective novel. The exegesis of the chronotope, articulated around hypertextual references of a historical nature, points to the first of them, and the analysis of the characters and the action, with strong resonances of traditional mystery novels, to the second one.
